Association with a Microsoft Dynamics Gold Certified Partner for Technical Support

Armond Dalton Publications has reached agreement with a commercial technology company specializing in Microsoft Dynamics GP to help adopters with technical problems professors and students have installing and using the software. The support is limited to current and potential adopters of the materials, therefore the name of the firm is not provided here. If you are a current or potential adopter, contact Armond Dalton Publishers for the name of the firm and its contact information.

The firm that will provide the support is a Microsoft Dynamics Gold Certified Partner and comes highly recommended by Microsoft personnel involved with Microsoft Dynamics GP. We have met with the firm's personnel several times and are impressed with their competence and commitment to help educators learn the software. In their review of Computerized Accounting Using Microsoft Dynamics GP materials they were so impressed that they are considering using them for the training courses they provide to their customers. The goal of our association with the support firm is to permit you to resolve any challenges that you or your students have with the Microsoft Dynamics GP software as quickly and easily as possible. They are now ready to receive your emails if you need assistance. Following are the procedures we have established.

1.	We request that you first look at the Frequently Asked Questions - Dynamics page to see if there is already a solution to your problem. The support firm is providing frequently updated information for the Armond Dalton web site to provide answers to frequently asked questions instructors have asked about the software. Students are also invited to use this source.
2.	Professors can contact the support firm via email during the normal M-F work week with Microsoft Dynamics GP technical issues. They have made a commitment to respond to emails within twenty four hours. Final resolution may take additional research and time, but in many instances they may be able to respond immediately and resolve the issue in much less than twenty four hours.

It is Armond Dalton's policy for the support firm not to respond to inquiries from students. This is both a cost issue for us and out of respect for many instructors' teaching preferences. We have provided the support firm a list of instructors to whom they will respond. If there are additional instructors or support personnel who you want them to respond to please send the names to Armond Dalton.

3.	As an adopter of Computerized Accounting Using Microsoft Dynamics GP, you have been provided directly with contact information for the technical support firm. If you still prefer to contact Armond Dalton directly, continue to call 517-351-8520 or email us at adpub@armonddalton.com. We will then forward the information to the support firm. This is likely to slow the response somewhat.
4.	Please contact Armond Dalton directly with any issues or concerns you have with the text materials. We are always interested in your concerns and recommendations. Similarly, if you have any concerns about your dealings with the support firm please let us know.

Technical Updates/Hints

1) If a user is installing GP either for the 1st time or is reinstalling software and gets unexpected display errors, the user should uninstall GP and SQL. There may be folders for GP and SQL still remaining that the uninstall process could not remove. These should be deleted, and the try to re-install GP.

2) Some users whose installation fails have fixed the issue by changing the location where the Dynamics program is installed. On page 1-10 of the textbook, the Install Location window shows the default installation location as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP-Education. However, some systems will not accept the hyphen in the GP-Education subfolder. Therefore, for anyone who is experiencing installation issues, we suggest manually changing the install location to the following: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GPEducation.

3) When using Windows 7 or Vista prior to loading the GP software, turn off (or disable) the User Account Security (UAC) in order to allow GP to load correctly.

4) The Trial Balance (Quick Summary) report prints blank for Jackson Supply Company because the default year is set to 2010 rather than 2011. To generate the report for 2011, open the Trial Balance Report Options window by clicking the Modify button in the Trial Balance Report window. Then set the year to 2011 and save.

5) Because of some requirements of SQL 2005, some installs have failed because of password issues. Although this problem is not widespread, some users have found that in order to successfully install the program, it is recommended that the password selected includes a combination of both upper and lower case letters, along with at least one numeric character. An example of a proper password would be Student 1.

6) Depending on your computer's configuration, the software might install in the "Program Files (x86)" main folder instead of the "Program Files" main folder.

7) Some foreign students have reported issues with the program operating correctly, especially students with computers manufactured with machine language set at Chinese. However, some Canadian students have also reported issues. In either case, the fix appears to be an easy one. The machine language must be set to English in order for the Microsoft Dynamics program to operate properly. To change the machine language to English, open the Regional and Language Options window in Control Panel, then select English (United States) in the Format tab.

8) If you cannot access the custom reports for Waren Sports Supply, then you likely forgot to copy the reports dictionary (reports.dic) file to the following location: c:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP-Education\Data. However, some users have reported that they still can't access the custom reports for Waren even after completing this step as written. Those users were able to access the custom reports by copying the reports.dic file into the Table subfolder instead of the Data subfolder.

Replacement of Defective DVDs

This program was reproduced by Armond Dalton Publishers, Inc. under a special arrangement with Microsoft Corporation. For this reason, Armond Dalton Publishers, Inc. is responsible for the product warranty.

Students who think they might have a defective DVD (this is very rare) should contact their instructor. The instructor will contact Armond Dalton to determine whether or not the problem is because of a defective DVD. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN THE DVD TO MICROSOFT CORPORATION OR CONTACT THEM FOR SOFTWARE SUPPORT. This product is provided for free, and no support is provided for by Armond Dalton Publishers, Inc. or Microsoft Corporation.

To the extent of any inconsistencies between this statement and the end user license agreement which accompanies the program, this statement shall govern.
